Achieving personal power should be the ultimate goal for every individual who understands his or her mission here on earth. It all begins with a mental picture of where you envision yourself to be and then working doggedly to get there. Personal power doesn’t just come by wishful thinking. Certain principles must be set in motion to make it manifest to reality.
According to Tunde Bakare, a renowned international speaker and pastor, "Destiny demands diligence. You cannot fulfill your destiny on theory. Neither can you dream yourself to where you want to be." In other words, for your destiny to be fulfilled you must WORK. There is always a price tag to achieving success in life. One of such prices is taking personal responsibility for your own life. No one but you can achieve success for you. Everything centers on you because you are the steward of the life given to you by your creator.
What then is Personal Power? It is "The ability to stay in charge of your life, vision and purpose, having a clear understanding of your mission, developing yourself to become a complete expert in your field, and being enthusiastic about what you do".
Let us critically examine some of the key terms used in the above definition of personal power:
* Being In Charge Of Your Life: It’s all about taking personal responsibility. You are the caretaker of your own destiny: "Your life is a gift from God and what you do with it is your gift back to Him."
* Sense of Personal Vision: Your VISION is your Future: It is the crystal clear mental picture of where you see yourself to be: "What you behold of you is what you become."
* Sense of Personal Purpose: Your PURPOSE is your reason for BEING: Have you ever asked yourself this question: Why do I exist? "Never forget, purpose discovered is destiny recovered."
* Sense of Personal Mission: Your mission is what you do in line to fulfilling your vision in life. "Until you translate your vision to mission, you miss the real purpose of being."
* Personal development: It is committing to a lifelong self-improvement. "If you stop learning today you stop leading tomorrow."
* The force of enthusiasm: Enthusiasm is a positive emotion that sparks like fire in achieving your goals. You cannot be fulfilled in doing what you hate. The reward for doing something you are not passionate about is frustration. As the saying goes, "The world belongs to the enthusiastic."
Personal Power is a term most people are not so familiar with. It has nothing to do with physical power, body building or weight lifting as some may think. Yes, all those physical stuffs are important because we all need to be physically fit and keep up with our body shape. But in reality, personal power has a lot to do with your personal identity, self-discovery, charisma and your total well-being.
Remember, you are never in competition with anyone except yourself. In life, you play to an audience of one person which is you. People who are productive in life do not base expectations for themselves on comparing themselves with others, but on the higher standard of personal potential. They have an inner drive to consistently do their best work and do not tolerate average mentality. Thomas S. Monson, a cleric, teaches that we need to come to terms with the fact that if we are to truly succeed in life, it is more important to compete against ourselves, than to compete with others. We will do this by repeatedly striving to exceed the new levels of performance we achieve each day, on the day that follows it. This process, as he so fittingly put it, is based on the idea of "getting ahead of ourselves."
By creation, you exist to make a difference—and that is why you are unique, a rare kind, and indispensable by nature. There is none of your kind round the whole globe. This fact about who you are should become a source of motivation to fortify your personal power in fulfilling your destiny in life.
